Hello, fellow bulbers!  Mario has been really good organizing and trying to improve the group so that it is more interactive and perhaps helpful to the members.  I know I could use all the help I can get.  He has created some new folders in the Gallery that I think some people will find useful.  The first is the "Tweaking Room" folder, which Mario told you about in the last blog.

The other folder of interest (and I must admit, I suggested it) is the Can You Improve This?  The basis of this folder is personal and selfish.  Well, maybe not that bad, but I wanted someplace to post some MDBs that look like they could have some potential, but just don't have the polished look or isn't quite detailed enough or the design has some minor flaws, something that prevents the image from being a decent Mandelbulb.  I know I'm a newcomer to the program and there's so much I don't know about it.  But, I know there are some of you out there who have been playing with Mandelbulb3D (and Mandelbulber), though I think most are using Mandelbulb 3D.  I have only used Mandelbulb 3D so far and I'm beginning to sort of get the hang of it, but I have a long way to go and if I could see what someone does to below par params to make them better, I may be able to get a handle on what it takes to achieve really smooth, detailed results.

If everyone thinks this is a stupid idea, we can always remove the folder.  But, if you've ever had images that you think someone who knew what they were doing could turn it into the beauty you know is there, then this folder is for those.

Let us know what you think about it and also if you have any other suggestions for folders or Challenges or Features or anything along those lines.

Take care, all, and happy bulbing!
Hi Mandelbulbers!

As an experiment, I opened today a new folder named "Tweaking Room" and included one fractal with parameters as a seed to it.

The idea behind this new folder is for anyone tweaking any of the parameters included there to post its result at least in that same place.  There are no rules as to what a tweak is so your creativity will guide the process.  This is something similar to the Round Robins and Fractal Circles.  However, total absence of rules or requirements on the fractal modification is, I think, new.

I am not sure how to go about the original works except that I suggest the formula sequence be an original of the author and not a tweak itself from some other source.

Of course it would be required to link the tweak with the original work, but only the last one so we don't expend a lot of time following a chain of works which can be followed easily should everybody post just the last.

I would be glad to hear critics, good or bad, to this idea.

Have a happy fractal day!

Hi Mandelbulbers

You are warmly invited to present your best works to the "Benoit Mandelbrot Fractal Art Contest 2011".  Each entrant is allowed to present up to three images through September 15, 2011.

We received our invitation from our distinguished member :iconmakinmagic:

You need to register in order to submit your work by filling the form you can access from the home page and hitting the 'Enter' button:… note that no numbers are allowed in your Bio. Only letters and spaces.  Also, read carefully the "Rules" page as there are some very strict indications related to the entries.

You will receive an e-mail confirming your registration and providing you with an URL which will be your point of entry to the Contest.

I am quoting below the words of the Contest Administrator so you have a flavor of what is going on.

"A Brief History of This Contest

Three times previously, in 2006, 2007 and 2009, we have organized a contest and subsequent exhibition celebrating fractal art. Each time, Benoit Mandelbrot was our honorary president and he was pleased to lend his name to our efforts.

On October 14, 2010 Benoit Mandelbrot passed away. For decades he furthered our knowledge of mathematics and inspired others to do the same. This contest is dedicated to his memory. His enthusiasm for this project will be missed and his shoes are impossible to fill, but Aliette Mandelbrot and Michael Barnsley have agreed to be our honorary presidents for this edition of the contest.

Our medium—fractal art—is a small part of all that has come from Mandelbrot’s work. Let’s celebrate the amazing and unexpected things that can come from mathematics.

Damien Jones, Contest Administrator"

Happy Fractaling!

Hi Mandelbulbers

You may have noticed that I am now a 'co-founder' in the terminology of :devart:  This in plain terms mean that I am willing to help this group to regain full activity in the months ahead.
I promise I will do my best but, as I am not the owner of the truth, any type of comments critical or non-critical will be welcome.  Especially those bringing new ideas

As you have noticed, one of the problems we had was the 'folder-full' problem which prevented us from adding new works for some time.  The sweet :iconwolfepaw: has been very helpful in adding a new folder and trying to clean the old one.  This is something we will continue figuring out, so any idea on how to re-organize our Gallery will be extremely welcome.

In that same direction, I have reduced the number of submissions to one per day.  I know that many of you are exceptional artists able to produce more than one piece a day.  However, this limitation will give us two benefits. First, you will only be submitting your best works, thus improving the quality of our Gallery.  Second, we will better manage the 'folder-full' problem.  Submissions will continue to be auto-approved, as it should be.  So, please, just make your submission to the appropriate folder.

We expect to hear from you.

Happy fractaling!
It was just brought to my attention by :iconmario837: that the Featured folder is full and not able to take any more submissions.  I'm sorry, I didn't even realize folders could get full.  My, my you all have been very busy!  Excellent work to boot!

Anyway, I have created a new folder called Featured 2 and you should now submit you art to that folder, if you can.  In the meantime, I have also created a new folder called Archived and I am starting to move the oldest submissions to that folder.  Unfortunately, there are 42 pages in the gallery and I can only move the images one at a time.  But, I will try to whittle it down over the next few days.

Thanks so much to :iconmario837: for keeping me updated.  I apologize for any inconvenience the full gallery may have caused you.  But please start submitting to the Featured 2 folder.  However, if you are not able to submit to that folder, let me know.  I could not see any way to allow submissions to any other folder but Featured.  I don't know if that has to do with the group status or not.  I may have to do some checking.

I will try to clear more out of the main Featured album and if you are not able to submit to the Featured 2 album, try to submit to the regular Featured album.  As I continue to move some from the Featured folder to the Archived folder, that should open more places for new art!

Update same day, pm - I finally figured out how to open the other albums up.  I have opened Featured 2 up for submissions by contributors and members.  I have opened up the Parameters and Tutorials folders up for approval, so if you have some param you'd like to share or a tutorial that you've made, please submit them and I'll check them for appropriateness and approve them for the folder or not.

But, now, please submit your little fractaling hearts out to Featured 2.  There should be plenty of room now!!

I apologize for my delay in knowing about this.  I don't often remember to check on the group and I really should be more interactive.  I'll try to do better in the future.
